Leadership is often defined as the capability to successfully manage change. Drivers of transformation are legion. The game at hand is to understand what's happening and determine if it offers an opportunity worth embracing.
This is not a time for the faint hearted. There is very little opportunity or value in standing still and doing nothing, we must engage with the change we will be encountering - And asking ourselves how can I best embrace it. Pay attention to these changes occurring, focus on progress and barriers. One of the worst possible scenarios is to have the leaders ignore the process. One recent survey respondent said “a change effort can't be optional for senior staff; they must lead or get out of the way ". Recognize the human element in the change. People have different needs and different ways of reacting to change. They need time to deal and adjust to change, as long as they are honest and worthy of trust. It's hard enough to deal with external problems, but too often people and organizations exacerbate their troubles by their own actions, self-defeating behaviors can make any situation worse.
A business landscape sometimes has no patterns; there is no way to predict where it will end. The business climate it turns out, it's a lot like the weather, there are some days when you can predict the weather well for the next 15 days, other times you can only really forecast a couple of days, and sometimes you can't predict the next 2 hours. Making business leaders to struggle with core questions - Which competitive advantage has staying power? What skills matter most? How can you weigh risk and opportunity while the fundamentals of your business may change overnight? If you look to far out in the future, you waste your time.
Most leaders, who achieve innovation and impact, are equally committed to the elite and the street. In many cases emerging business models are just as modern as those in the west...With the emergence of a new generation of business leaders, introducing a business model with a wider purpose, with a powerful social mission as part of their foundation.
Having a clear sense of purpose, selecting the right people and the ability to change ahead of the curve, will be the hallmarks of a truly successful leader.
